“I’m a good leader, I’ve just been busy lately”.

You may have heard the saying “leaders bring the weather”.

Human moods are contagious, and in the workplace, leaders set the emotional and cultural climate just as surely as the sun influences the day. Stepping into a meeting where the leader exudes calm and confidence despite the looming deadlines is quite different to encountering visible anxiety or frustration. Either way, this demeanour will be contagious, spreading a sense of control and positivity – or uncertainty and fear - throughout the room.

Each decision, reaction, and interaction doesn’t just move a project forward—it also sends a message about values and expectations.

Effective leaders understand that their attitude can either elevate or deflate the team’s spirit.

As a leader, you’re only human – you will have highs and lows just like everyone. But your impact is outsized – so be aware, and take care to adjust accordingly – especially when you’re busy!

Engage with your team regularly, offer support during high-pressure periods, and celebrate collective successes enthusiastically. These actions help build a climate of trust and enthusiasm.

Your approach can turn an ordinary day into a stormy one or bring out the best in everyone, much like the sun breaking through the clouds. Ah, lovely.
