Struggling harder looks like...

When we are working hard without having the impact we want, we can respond by struggling harder.

This looks like:

  • Working longer hours

  • Sacrificing sleep, exercise and healthy food

  • Cancelling holidays – or working through them

  • Sacrificing personal time

  • Doing everything yourself so it “gets done right”

  • Self-medicating with alcohol and/or other drugs

  • … add your own!

If this sounds like you, I hear you. Don’t beat yourself up over responding in the “wrong” way, which will only make it worse.

Instead, be kind to yourself. Pause, relax, and think about how you can change direction.

In quicksand, don’t struggle. Stop, think clearly, and gently, slowly ease out of the mud.

What is a small, easily achievable change you can make that will ease the struggling and build up your resources and capacity? It doesn’t need to be adding to your “to do list”. The change can mean stopping something.

Until next week, take care of yourself and others,

Madeleine

PPS The official launch of the Thriving as a Lawyer program is coming soon – although word of mouth has been so strong I’m already running it! This program is about helping lawyers to reconnect with their confidence and agency in a practical way, so that they can more effortlessly make the calls they need in their work and lives in order to thrive in both. If you’d like to find out more or pre-register, let me know.

I work with clients from executive leadership teams to the front line, helping them to make clearer decisions about what they want, and adapt faster and more easily to change and transition. I use deep purpose as a key to unlock powerful thriving in work and life.
