Shift from struggling to thriving during times of intense challenge
“I’m working harder and harder to get things done, but feel like I’m only going backwards”
“I work so hard but no-one seems to appreciate or even notice it”
“Sometimes I think it’s not even worth it – I should just quit and go and live under a rock somewhere”
Transitions mean change, and change is challenging
• What worked as a brilliant chemical engineer doesn’t necessarily work when you’re leading a team of chemical engineers.
• What worked for your team for years might no longer be what’s needed after a restructure, merger or the appearance of a strong new competitor.
• What worked as head of a division might not work when you’re the CEO.
Performance takes a dip while we figure out what’s going on, then – ideally – moves up again as we master the new situation.
The dip is not fun. It feels like very, very hard work. Ideally, you want the dip to be as short and shallow as possible.
Unfortunately, sometimes people either plateau – never recovering their performance and eventually limiting their ability to progress further - or worse, they fail to transition, with their performance spiraling down as their distress increases, until they eventually exit the role, voluntarily or otherwise.
It feels like sinking in quicksand
To get out of the quicksand, people try working harder and harder to produce more impact and results:
Working longer hours
Cancelling holidays – or working through them
Sacrificing personal time
Sacrificing sleep, exercise and healthy food
Doing everything yourself so it “gets done right”
Self medicating with alcohol and/or other drugs
In other words, they struggle even more. It’s like being in quicksand. While this might work to boost output in the short term, it is always counterproductive in the longer term. And it feels awful.
Instead, I work with you to focus on changing the struggle factor
You will:
Understand specifically where your struggles during times of change at work originate and what to do about it
Tune into and develop those aspects of your authentic self that serves your performance in work and life
Use those insights to build courage and confidence to explore new ways of operating
Become comfortable performing at a higher level, yet with greater ease – leaving time and energy for all the other things that matter
Rebuild your engagement, commitment, energy, impact and enjoyment in work and life
You will lift out of the quicksand, gain traction and begin enjoying life again
Out of the Quicksand can be delivered via:
individual or group coaching
workshops
keynote sessions
